Three heroin smugglers from Punjab were arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police following an early morning shooting incident in Rangoor Camp, Samba district. The smugglers, identified as Jagdeep Singh, Satinderpal Singh, and Sunny Kumar, opened fire on local villagers during a scuffle. Two villagers were injured in the incident.
The police apprehended the suspects later in the day and seized a consignment of heroin, cash amounting to Rs 93,200, a pistol with a magazine, and ammunition. One of the smugglers also sustained a gunshot wound during the firing. The injured individuals, including the suspects, were admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Samba SSP Benam Tosh said the villagers, who were looking for a missing boy, stopped a car passing through their village and enquired the occupants about their identity and the purpose of their visit. However, this led to a scuffle between the villagers and the occupants, who opened fire at them. The assailants later escaped on a motorcycle after the car key was snatched by the villagers.
An FIR has been filed under 307 IPC and the Arms Act at Ramgarh police station following the firing and information was relayed across police nakas and stations in Samba district. The smugglers were eventually apprehended at a naka in Rarian.
